Neustadt-Glewe

Neustadt-Glewe is one of the oldest medieval small towns in Mecklenburg. The town was first historically mentioned in 1248. A true must-see, from the cultural and historical perspective, is the town centre with its municipal building erected in 1806, which has a unique clock tower as a ridge turret. The oldest church, a brick construction with an elaborate pulpit inside from 1587, also has a special free-standing bell tower. The castle with its neighbouring park area was built in the 13th century. It is the oldest completely intact fortified castle of Mecklenburg.

The city on the Müritz-Elde waterway is surrounded by many forests, meadows, ponds and a lake. Bike tours as well as strolls through the Lewitz, especially to the fish ponds and the hunting lodge Friedrichsmoor (built around 1780), offer insight into the diverse flora and fauna of this amazing area. Round trip flights with powered aircrafts and gliders as well as parachuting can also be booked here.

Popular events include the annual Burgfest (castle festival) occurring on the second weekend of June with its medieval hustle and bustle and the Neptunfest on the last weekend in July.
