The 48th Neustadt Festival Delights Visitors with a Grand Parade in Bergneustadt
From Thursday, May 14, through May 17, representatives from the sister cities visited Bergneustadt in the Bergisches Land to foster friendships across municipal and national borders, get to know their neighbors better, and appreciate their values. A total of 29 cities named Neustadt from six European countries were represented, and approximately 2,700 parade participants from 57 groups took part in the traditional parade.
Mayor Stefan Ulrich and representatives from the Neustadt in Europe office participated on behalf of Neustadt an der Weinstraße. 29 cities, including Bad Neustadt an der Saale, Bergneustadt, Neustadt an der Weinstraße, Neustadt/Spree, Neustadt a.d. Waldnaab, Neustadt am Rübenberge, Neustadt bei Coburg, Neuenstadt am Kocher, Neustadt Glewe, Titisee-Neustadt, the City of Neustadt-Vogtland, the City of Neustadt in Holstein, the City of Nové Město na Moravě (CZ), the City of Nové Město na Moravě (CZ), Neustadtl an der Donau (A), the City of Cristian (Ro), Nieuwstadt (NL), and the City of Breuberg were also present with delegations. In addition, the Neustadt Traditional Band and the Feucht-Fröhlichen Neustadter provided musical accompaniment for the varied festival program in Bergneustadt.
The host had gone to great lengths to plan an unforgettable festival. The gathering was opened on Thursday evening at 5 p.m. by Mayor Matthias Thul. Guests from the visiting cities, guests of honor, city representatives, and local clubs attended the opening ceremony.
A varied program of music and culture was on the schedule for the extended festival weekend from Friday through Sunday. There was also a colorful parade through the city featuring all the delegations, as well as the “Europameile” (Friday and Saturday) with various sales and information booths. On Friday, May 15, at 10:00 a.m., the local baker presented the Bergneustadt coat of arms made from hundreds of “Berliner” pastries on a large table.
During the mayors’ roundtable on Saturday morning, the mayors discussed current developments and future work within the working group.
Next year’s meeting will take place in Nieuwstadt, Netherlands, from June 18 to 20, 2027. Be sure to mark your calendars now!
